originAS is a browser extension by Matthias Cramer (FreeStone Systems, Switzerland). It shows the origin AS (Autonomous System), IP address and location of the web server behind the website in the current tab.
Only when you click the originAS toolbar icon, the extension sends the hostname of the current tab (for example www.example.com) to https://ip6.ch over an encrypted HTTPS connection. It does not send the full web address, page content, cookies, form data or any other information from your browser. Nothing is sent in the background or for pages where you do not click the icon.
ip6.ch is operated by the extension author and hosted in Switzerland. It resolves the hostname, looks up the AS and location of the resulting server IP address and sends the result back to the extension. Like any web server, ip6.ch writes standard access logs (time, your IP address and the request, which contains the hostname). These logs are used only to operate and secure the service and are deleted after 14 days.
The extension does not store any data in your browser. Your data is not sold, not shared with third parties, not used for advertising or tracking, and not used for any purpose other than answering your lookup.
